According to the standards of Professional Photographers of America (PPA), a merit point is earned through participation in three categories: advanced education, photographic competence and service to the profession. In the area of photographic competence, an award-winning print scores high marks in 12 distinct, artistic categories, and earns one merit point when admitted into the General Collection.Two merit points are awarded to an outstanding print admitted into the Loan Collection, where it is displayed at the International Exhibition of Professional Photography, and published in a book.

Patricia enjoys competing in local, national and international print competitions, and considers them an opportunity to grow her photographic knowledge, skills and artistry.
